Put the LINGO Back in DuoLINGO

Project type

Digital Marketign Campaign

Date

May 2026

Location

NYU SPS - Digital Marketing

Duolingo has a direction problem, not a capability problem. With 50M+ daily active users and a viral cultural presence, the brand mastered attention — but drifted from its core promise: actually making people fluent.

This campaign repositions Duolingo around real-world cultural moments, anchored by the 2026 FIFA World Cup and built for two distinct audiences: the World Cup Traveler who wants to belong in the moment, and the Cultural Globetrotter who wants language to unlock the cultures they already love.

The strategy operates on two tracks. Track 1 — Duolingo: The Official Language of Fútbol — ties language learning directly to match-day moments through social content, dynamic out-of-home, in-app World Cup Mode, stadium pop-ups, and airline partnerships. Track 2 — Find the Moment. Learn the Language. — builds year-round retention through participatory cultural programming including Movie Nights, film and music integrations, and community-driven learning experiences.
